(VIDEO) Pep Guardiola Explains Unusual Scratch on His Face After Manchester City Draw
After Manchester City surrendered a 3-0 lead to Feyenoord in the Champions League, Pep Guardiola surprised many with a visible cut on his nose—an injury he admitted felt even more painful following his team’s performance. The draw extended City’s winless streak to six matches.
What Did Pep Guardiola Say?
"I cut it with my finger," Guardiola explained during a press conference before jokingly adding, "I want to hurt myself."
"The match was fine at 3-0, we were playing well. Then we conceded too many goals because we’re not stable right now. We gave away the first goal and then the others, which makes it difficult."
"We’ve lost a lot of matches recently; we’re fragile. We need a win. This match was crucial for our confidence—we were playing at a high level—but something happens, and we’re in trouble. I don’t know if it’s a mental issue. The first goal cannot happen, and neither can the second. After that, we lose control. We’re desperate to win, to do things right, but it’s not working."
"There are many good things, but after the 3-3 result, there’s nothing else to say. At this level, you cannot give so much away. In other circumstances, this wouldn’t have happened, but now, it does," added the Spanish coach.
What’s Next for Manchester City?
City will visit Anfield on Sunday, trailing by eight points in the Premier League and facing a streak of five losses and one draw.
Stat of the Match
This was the first time since May 1989 that City failed to win after taking a three-goal lead. Guardiola, who made three substitutions midway through the second half, admitted he didn’t anticipate Feyenoord’s comeback: "The game is never over, but at 3-0, I didn’t see any danger."
