Butragueño's Warning About Real Madrid in This Champions League
Emilio Butragueño, Real Madrid's Director of Institutional Relations, emphasized the need to "adapt" to the new Champions League format, stating that his club enters the competition "with the intention of winning it" after securing their 15th title last season.
"We come into this competition with the aim of winning it. We have to try to get the best out of the team in every match to qualify for the Round of 16. If we don’t finish among the top eight, it would mean two more matches, and it’s an especially demanding season in every sense. Every match will be important," he stated.
Butragueño attended the Champions League draw in Monaco on Thursday, where Real Madrid was placed in a group with Borussia Dortmund (GER), Milan (ITA), Salzburg (AUT), and Stuttgart (GER) at home, and will face Liverpool (ENG), Atalanta (ITA), Lille (FRA), and Brest (FRA) away.
"It’s going to be different—four matches at home, four away, with no return legs, and we have to adapt and prepare each match in the best way possible to try to be among the top eight, which must be our goal," he insisted, adding that the club is "very satisfied" with the current squad.
