Guardiola Clarifies Comments on Head Injuries with Public Message
Manchester City manager appeared with a scratch and bruises during a press conference and said he wanted to hurt himself. He has now clarified what he meant.
Pep Guardiola, manager of Manchester City, clarified his comments about the head injuries he sustained when speaking to the press after his team's 3-3 draw against Feyenoord on Wednesday in the fifth round of the Champions League group stage. He said he did not intend to "downplay self-inflicted injuries."
The Spanish coach had visible cuts on his nose and head and mentioned that it was a wound caused by his finger. "I wanted to hurt myself," Guardiola said at the end of his press conference after his team squandered a 3-0 lead against the Dutch side.
Message on Social Media
Following the stir caused by this statement, Guardiola issued a clarification on social media on Wednesday.
"I was caught off guard with a question at the end of the press conference about a scratch on my face, and I explained that a nail accidentally caused this. My response was not intended to downplay such a serious issue as self-harm," the manager commented.
"I know that many people struggle with mental health issues, and I want to emphasize the importance of seeking help," he added, sharing contact information for support organizations.
Manchester City, following this draw, extended their winless streak to six games, with five losses and one draw. This Sunday, the 'Sky Blues' will visit Anfield, with the possibility of falling eleven points behind Liverpool.
