Switzerland Robbed in Their Hotel!
Concern in the Swiss national team after the theft of three computers at their own training hotel in Stuttgart. Sabotage?
Switzerland was robbed at the Euros, and no, we're not talking about any refereeing decisions, but an actual theft. With just a few days left until the start of the Euro 2024 Round of 16, where Switzerland will face Italy, the three computers reported stolen by the Swiss Football Federation two days ago remain missing, causing concern at the team's camp in Stuttgart.
During Switzerland's final group stage match against Germany in Frankfurt, a game they nearly won and almost topped the group, ultimately secured by a late goal from Niclas Fullkrug, they confirmed themselves as one of the teams to watch out for as a potential surprise.
Flawless in the group stage, Switzerland arrived at this tournament as dark horses but now garners admiration for their tactical discipline. So much so that someone sought to review their laptops. The theft occurred on the night of June 23 at the Maritim Hotel in Dusseldorf where Switzerland's analysis team was working on analyzing other teams as potential opponents.
"I can confirm that three computers belonging to our staff disappeared from the hotel; we have informed the police," said Adrian Arnold, spokesperson for the Swiss federation, to 'Bild'.
However, it appears that if the intention of the theft was to obtain tactical information from Murat Yakin, the coach, it was an operation in vain.
"There were no data stored on the three computers that we use for this tournament. If it was sabotage against our team, then it failed," Arnold added.
The hotel promptly collaborated with German authorities, handing over all security camera footage. However, at present, the three computers and the culprit(s) remain at large.
Switzerland, based in Stuttgart, continues undeterred in their preparation for the upcoming match, the Round of 16 against Italy, promising to be one of the most evenly contested.
With computers or without, the Swiss team arrives as one of the revelation teams in this phase of the tournament, having previously made waves in 2021, where they were eliminated by penalties in the quarterfinals against Spain after defeating France in the Round of 16, marking their best historical result.
