Should Tua Tagovailoa Retire After New Concussion?
Experts and NFL fans have once again voiced their concerns about the league's concussion policies after Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa suffered another injury of this kind during Thursday Night Football against the Buffalo Bills.
With three minutes remaining in the third quarter, the quarterback took a devastating hit that left him lying motionless on the field. It was a collision with Bills safety Damar Hamlin, a moment that led to complete silence in the stadium as the disturbing image of Tagovailoa's rigid arms in an unnatural position unfolded.
Immediately, the Dolphins' medical team rushed in to attend to the player, and after an evaluation, it was decided that he would not return to the field. His wife and children were present while he underwent urgent medical assessment.
Players from both teams knelt in response to the unsettling situation, which was a recurring nightmare for Tua, marking his third concussion in two years. As soon as his condition was confirmed, social media began debating his potential retirement.
Dez Bryant Calls for Protection of Tua Tagovailoa’s Future
Veteran receiver Dez Bryant was among the first to react to Tua’s situation, using social media to express his concern for the Dolphins' quarterback.
"That’s it… The NFL needs to do the right thing. Tua has had too many concussions. He needs to retire for his health and longevity," he posted.
The ongoing concern about Tagovailoa’s injury history reflects the NFL's long-standing battle to prevent concussions, and many critics are questioning whether the Miami Dolphins are doing enough to protect their franchise player.
The big question now is whether it's worth continuing to take the risk associated with these injuries or if retirement is the best option.
Dolphins Seek Replacement for Tua
NFL Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel announced that his team will be hiring another quarterback to replace Tua Tagovailoa.
"I don’t see how Tua plays the next game. We’ll bring someone in; we’re just evaluating the pros and cons of different situations. For now, Skylar Thompson remains the next in line to play," McDaniel said.
The head coach also spoke about the team's concern for Tagovailoa as a person, beyond his recovery and return to play.
