Brazil Defeats Spain, Advances to Paris 2024 Olympic Final
The South American women will face the United States to decide the winners of the Olympic gold in women's soccer.
The Brazilian team secured an Olympic medal after a resounding 4-2 victory over Spain in the semifinals of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. With this win, the Brazilians will compete against the U.S. team for the Olympic gold on Saturday, August 10.
During the match, Brazil took an early lead thanks to a costly defensive error by Spain, resulting in an own goal by Irene Paredes that put Brazil ahead 1-0 in the 5th minute.
Later, at the end of the first half, the Brazilians orchestrated a fantastic team play, finished off by Gabi Portilho, to make it 2-0 and increase Brazil's lead in the 45+3 minute, making things even more difficult for Spain.
In the second half, things got worse for the Europeans. In the 70th minute, Adriana took advantage of a rebound in the box and headed the ball into the net, making it 3-0 in favor of the Cariocas.
Spain responded in the final stretch of the match, scoring their first goal in the 84th minute, courtesy of Salma Paralluelo, bringing the score to 3-1 and giving Spain a glimmer of hope.
Minutes later, another defensive mistake by Spain led to Brazil's fourth goal, scored by Kerolin, sealing Spain's fate in the 90th minute. However, Spain fought back with honor, and in a corner kick, Salma Paralluelo scored again, ending the match at 4-2.
