Emotional Tribute from Napoli to Maradona on the 4th Anniversary of His Death
An unconditional idol of a city that considers him a sort of deity, Diego Armando Maradona received a heartfelt tribute from the team he led to glory in the late '80s and early '90s.
Napoli paid tribute this Monday to Argentine Diego Armando Maradona, a legend of the club who passed away exactly four years ago.
A delegation led by president Aurelio De Laurentiis, coach Antonio Conte, and captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo visited the two most iconic murals in the southern Italian city in honor of "El Diego."
The tour included a first stop at the Quartieri Spagnoli (Spanish Quarters), home to the most famous sanctuary dedicated to Maradona, and a second visit to San Giovanni a Teduccio, where another iconic mural honors the player. The three figures from the current Serie A leaders laid wreaths, held a moment of silence, and paid their respects to the most representative player in the history of the 'azzurro' club.
Maradona won five titles with Napoli: in 1987, the Coppa Italia and the club's first-ever 'Scudetto'; in 1989, the UEFA Cup and the second league title; and in 1990, the Supercoppa Italia.
