Andy Reid of the Chiefs, Sean Payton of the Broncos, Mike Tomlin of the Steelers, Jim Harbaugh of the Chargers, Sean McVay of the Rams, and Kyle Shanahan of the 49ers lead the pack among the top 10 highest-paid American sports coaches in 2024.
According to Sportico, a specialist in sports industry data, this list includes the most recent contracts for each coach, excluding potential performance-based incentives.
Andy Reid, a three-time Super Bowl champion with the Kansas City Chiefs, ranks as the highest-paid coach with an annual income of $20 million. Widely regarded as the best active head coach, Reid is the only NFL coach to have won 100 games with two different franchises: the Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles.
Denver Broncos' coach Sean Payton, who claimed the Vince Lombardi Trophy with the New Orleans Saints at Super Bowl XLIV, follows closely at $18 million annually.
The third and fourth spots are occupied by NBA coaches: Steve Kerr of the Golden State Warriors, earning $17.5 million per year, and Gregg Popovich of the San Antonio Spurs, making $17 million.
Tied for fifth place are Mike Tomlin of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Jim Harbaugh of the Los Angeles Chargers, each earning $16 million per season. Harbaugh, who led the Michigan Wolverines to a national championship in 2023, was signed by the Chargers to a five-year, $80 million contract.
Positions seven through nine, each commanding $15 million, include Erik Spoelstra of the Miami Heat, Tyronn Lue of the Los Angeles Clippers, both from the NBA, and Sean McVay of the NFL’s Los Angeles Rams.
Rounding out the top 10 is Kyle Shanahan, who coaches the San Francisco 49ers.
