Injury at Atlético Mineiro Days Before The Copa Libertadores Final
Argentine attacking midfielder Matías Zaracho, a player for Atlético Mineiro, suffered an injury to his left thigh and is a serious doubt for the Copa Libertadores final against fellow Brazilian team Botafogo, which will be played this Saturday in Buenos Aires.
"It has been confirmed that midfielder Zaracho suffered a muscle injury to the posterior part of his left thigh during the match against São Paulo," the Belo Horizonte club informed on their social media this Monday, just five days before the big final.
The former Racing de Avellaneda player "has already started physiotherapy treatment," according to the Brazilian club, although no recovery timeline has been provided.
However, all signs point to the 26-year-old Argentine footballer missing the decisive match, which will be held at the Monumental stadium in Buenos Aires, the home of River Plate.
Zaracho is not a guaranteed starter in the tactical setup of Argentine coach Gabriel Milito, who usually forms the midfield with Fausto Vera, Ecuador's Alan Franco, and wingbacks Guilherme Arana and Gustavo Scarpa. Nevertheless, the attacking midfielder is a regular in the second half, meaning his likely absence will reduce options for Atlético Mineiro's bench.
The Belo Horizonte club will be looking for their second Copa Libertadores this Saturday, while Botafogo, also competing for the Brazilian League title, will attempt to win their first continental trophy.
