Barcelona Unveils New Jersey Featuring Ronaldinho
The Blaugrana club announced their 125th anniversary jersey this Thursday with a video featuring legends and current stars of the team.
In the midst of negotiating a new contract with Nike, which could help balance their finances, Barcelona presented the jersey for the upcoming 2024-25 season this Thursday, in which they will celebrate their 125th anniversary. This jersey is a tribute to the first blaugrana kit dating back to 1899.
The jersey is bicolor: half blue, half garnet. The crest is the central element, with the logo of their main sponsor (Spotify) on the front along with Nike's, Ambilight TV on the sleeve of the men's jersey and Bimbo on the women's, and the UNHCR/ACNUR logo under the jersey number.
The club has created a campaign with the slogan: "Volem la pilota" (We Want the Ball) and is promoting it with an audiovisual campaign that aims to reinforce two of the pillars that define Barça: their style of play and their Catalan identity.
The presentation video features historical players (Ronaldinho, Iniesta, Puyol, Gasol, and Stoichkov) and current players (Cubarsí, Lewandowski, Araujo, Pedri, Fermín, Gavi, Balde, Lamine, and Raphinha; Vicky, Alexia, Aitana, Mapi, Engen, and Rolfö).
It all starts with an image of Ronaldinho getting out of a car with an old ball, victory celebrations, images of the women's team, and flashes of Koeman, Messi, Guardiola, Luis Enrique, and Rivaldo.
Raphinha playing the bongos, like Ronaldinho did; Lamine and Piqué raising five fingers in a classic celebration after a Clásico. Stoichkov and Gasol join a video call with Balde and Gavi, while Lewandowski, Cubarsí, and Araujo share a 'pa amb tomàquet.'
Andrés Iniesta cooks a croquette just before showing how he outmaneuvered opponents with the same move on the pitch.
The video features the Sagrada Familia, Cruyff's iconic goal against Atlético de Madrid; Pedri and Fermín painting a ball, and the ball rolling through the streets of Barcelona. Designer Pilarín Bayés also makes an appearance.
The video is completed with a unity shot of the women's team with the 'Castellers' of Poble Sec. It shows Koeman's goal in the first Champions League final in 1992, and the video concludes with Carles Puyol, the eternal Barça captain, saying "Visca el Barça.
