Can Barcelona Sign Another Player Due to Ter Stegen's Injury?
The president of LaLiga, Javier Tebas, addressed this question after the confirmation of the terrible injury suffered by the German goalkeeper.
After the serious injury sustained by Marc-André ter Stegen during the match against Villarreal, many are questioning whether Barcelona can sign a replacement player despite the transfer window being closed.
This uncertainty was addressed by LaLiga president Javier Tebas, who explained that Barcelona could indeed replace the German goalkeeper.
Does the replacement need to be another goalkeeper? Tebas confirmed that it does not have to be a keeper. This option was included in the economic control regulations after consensus among all clubs.
"When there is a long-term injury, a club can sign a replacement for the same amount as the injured player. It can be a goalkeeper or not. This rule was developed with the clubs and was not in the initial versions of the economic control," he stated during his speech at the Fórum Europa, following the news of Ter Stegen's possible patellar tendon injury.
The Economy of Barcelona
Regarding Barcelona's financial situation, Tebas opined that "the economic situation of Barcelona is often exaggerated" and assured that "it is better than it was two years ago and will be even better in two years." He emphasized that there is no leniency, which he believes is said to discredit LaLiga and financial fair play.
