Dani Olmo Determined to Succeed at FC Barcelona
Although his contractual situation is uncertain, the Spanish international has expressed his desire to win titles with the blaugranas.
This is the hot topic at the end of the year for FC Barcelona. While Hansi Flick is racking his brain trying to halt his team’s poor run in LaLiga, Barcelona’s management is working tirelessly to resolve the contractual situation of Dani Olmo, and by extension, that of Pau Víctor.
In fact, due to financial difficulties and restrictions imposed by LaLiga, the Catalan club had to use a specific regulation to register the Spanish international with the governing body of Iberian football. However, this solution is temporary, as it is tied to the long-term injury of Andreas Christensen.
With the Danish defender’s imminent return, Dani Olmo will no longer be authorized to play in the Spanish league starting January 1 and will be free to sign elsewhere if he wishes, as stipulated in his contract. However, this option seems to be far from the player’s plans, having fulfilled his dream of returning to his boyhood club last summer. "There were other options, but when Barça came up with this initiative, I didn’t hesitate. Coming back home, with my family and friends, was a dream, and now I can make it come true," he said in an interview with Barça One.
"I want to win titles with Barça"
A dream he has nurtured for 10 years, ever since he left Catalonia to turn professional at Dinamo Zagreb. "It was a brave decision that helped me a lot, but always with a clear goal: to return to Barça someday," he added. Now that he has achieved it, the 26-year-old has no intention of letting an administrative detail ruin his experience or derail his ambitions. These ambitions are sky-high, even more so after actively contributing to Spain’s victory in the Euro 2024. "This year has been very special, but this is just the beginning. I feel there’s still a lot to do. I want to win titles with Barça (…) We have a great team, and we hope to bring a lot of joy to our fans," explained the former RB Leipzig player.
The question now is whether he will be able to perform as he hopes within Hansi Flick's squad. Earlier this week, FC Barcelona executives and the player’s representatives presented their case before the Barcelona Commercial Court, which is set to deliver its verdict this Friday, December 27. In 2023, the court had already ruled in favor of the blaugranas in the case of Gavi.
