Flick Finds Silver Lining in Barcelona Missing Club World Cup
FC Barcelona will not participate in the 2025 Club World Cup, set to take place in the United States, after their elimination in the quarterfinals of the 2024 UEFA Champions League. While the absence has sparked debates among fans, head coach Hansi Flick has chosen to highlight the potential benefits of not competing in the tournament.
A Much-Needed Break
In a press conference, Flick remarked:
"We’re not there, and I can’t change that. Perhaps it’s a good thing for my players to get some rest. We’ll have a proper preseason, and that will help us a lot."
The German coach, who has guided Barcelona to the top of LaLiga EA Sports, sees the break as an opportunity to better manage the workload of his players amid an increasingly demanding schedule.
Focused Preparation for the Future
Flick emphasized that missing the Club World Cup offers a rare chance to focus on a full preseason, which he deems crucial for ensuring optimal performance in both domestic and international competitions.
"This will allow us to prepare the team calmly and ensure we are in the best possible shape to face upcoming challenges," Flick added.
Prioritizing Domestic Competitions
While Barcelona won’t feature on the international stage, Flick stressed the importance of focusing on LaLiga EA Sports and other domestic tournaments. He believes this approach will not only strengthen the team but also enhance their competitiveness in Europe.
By avoiding the additional physical strain of the Club World Cup, Flick sees an opportunity to prevent injuries and build team cohesion—factors he considers vital for the club’s long-term success.
