The interest from Real Madrid prompted Hummels to halt any decisions about his future to allow the club time to clarify their interest.

This interest is due to the fact that, with Nacho's departure and Alaba injured until November, Real Madrid currently has only three fit center-backs: Militao, Rüdiger, and Vallejo, although the latter is not fully trusted.
