Mbappé Talks About His La Liga Drought After Breaking Goal Scoring Streak
Kylian Mbappé was ecstatic after scoring his first two goals in Spanish football, securing Real Madrid’s 2-0 victory over Real Betis. The forward experienced "a great moment" as he scored in "a legendary stadium, the best in the world," breaking a three-game goalless streak in La Liga—something that, according to him, "feels like a lot."
"It was a great moment. I was hoping to score in this legendary stadium, the best in the world, but the most important thing is the victory. After the game against Las Palmas, we knew we had to win. It was a tough match, as always against teams like this, but we are Real Madrid and we finally won," he stated on Real Madrid TV.
Mbappé expressed gratitude for the support he felt during the games in which he didn’t score. "Since I arrived, I’ve been saying: I’m very happy, people show me a lot of affection, even when I wasn’t scoring. Three games might seem like little to many people, but to me, it feels like a lot. I’ve always felt the support of the club’s people, the players, and the fans. My goal was to stay confident and score goals for this club and its crest," he acknowledged.
Having broken the streak, Mbappé is now focused on starting a positive scoring run to boost his team. "Since the first day of my presentation, it’s been a dream to be here. I hope to score more and receive more ovations."
After speaking to the club’s TV channel, Mbappé also addressed the media in the mixed zone.
"It was a great moment for me. The most important thing was winning because after the game against Las Palmas, it was tough. At home, we always have to win. It was a great night for me because I wanted to score at the Bernabéu, but it wasn’t pressure for me because I knew it was going to happen," he said.
"I came naturally, with the desire to help the team and to enjoy playing with Vinícius and the others. We have an incredible group here. They’re great players and great people. Things will improve tactically, and if we all connect, we’re going to have a great season," he commented.
He also spoke about his position on the field, playing more as a "9" and leaving the left wing to Vinícius.
"I’m a player who can play in all three positions; I did it in Paris, Monaco, and with the national team. It’s not a problem for me; what I need to do is adapt to my teammates. My position is a debate for you or the people outside, it’s not something I have in mind. Things will get better," he assessed.
He also assured that he’s "not" surprised by the pressure at Real Madrid and the criticism after two draws in three games, since it was "the same" at PSG.
"This is part of life at a big club, and it doesn’t affect me, nor my teammates," he affirmed.
Lastly, he asked for patience as he and the team adapt after his arrival.
"I know that when a player like me arrives at a team, a lot of things change. I know that, I’m not crazy. And from the first game, you can see that we’re a bit better. I feel good in the team, and I know as a player I can do better than today and in other games," he concluded.
