Shakira Puts Sergio Ramos’ Rayados in Trouble
Shakira’s Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran tour is set to arrive in Mexico, but her concerts at Estadio BBVA will directly affect Rayados de Monterrey, forcing the club to reconsider its venue for the Concachampions match.
Rayados Without a Stadium Due to Shakira’s Concerts
The Colombian singer has scheduled performances at Estadio BBVA on March 12 and 13, dates that coincide with Monterrey’s Round of 16 second-leg match in the CONCACAF Champions Cup (Concachampions) against Saprissa or Vancouver Whitecaps.
Setting up the concert stage requires several days of preparation, making the stadium unavailable for sporting events. As a result, Monterrey is evaluating several alternatives.
Rayados’ Options for a Home Venue
Monterrey has a few potential solutions:
Changing Venues – The club is considering playing at El Volcán (Tigres’ stadium) or TSM Torreón (home of Santos Laguna). Another option is moving the match to Houston, USA, where Rayados have a strong fan base.
Rescheduling the Match – Monterrey explored moving the game to March 10, but this violates Concachampions regulations and clashes with their Liga MX fixture against Cruz Azul on March 8.
Swapping Home and Away Legs – In a last-resort scenario, Monterrey could host the first leg between March 4-6 and play the second leg in Costa Rica or Canada between March 11-13. However, this would put them at a competitive disadvantage.
Sergio Ramos Misses Mazatlán Match
Rayados did not include Sergio Ramos in their squad against Mazatlán, opting instead to keep him in Nuevo León to continue his recovery following his recent return to action against Atlético San Luis.
The 2010 World Cup winner played 80 minutes in his comeback match after an eight-month absence, but Monterrey’s coaching staff, led by Martín Demichelis, prefers a gradual reintegration to avoid injury risks.
With Mazatlán not posing a major challenge, the club prioritized rest and training for Ramos rather than rushing him back into action.
