Will Sergio Ramos Start for Monterrey Against Santos?
Sergio Ramos is expected to return to Monterrey's starting lineup this Sunday, as the team visits Santos Laguna for Matchday 10 of the Clausura 2025 tournament in Liga MX. The Spanish defender, who missed the last match against Mazatlán FC, could be back in Martín Demichelis’ starting XI.
Why Didn’t Ramos Play Against Mazatlán?
Ramos, who turns 39 in March, was absent in Monterrey’s 1-0 loss to Mazatlán last Tuesday. Head coach Martín Demichelis explained that it was a precautionary decision due to the defender’s recent inactivity:
“We missed Sergio, but it would have been crazy to play him today because he’s coming off nine months without action. We can’t start him in three consecutive matches, but once he’s fully fit, he will play.”
Ramos’ Impact on Monterrey’s Defense
The former Real Madrid and PSG star made his Liga MX debut last Saturday, helping Rayados secure a 3-1 victory over Atlético San Luis. Ramos played 79 minutes, showcasing his leadership and defensive solidity. He even came close to scoring with a powerful header in the 13th minute.
Despite being one of the most vulnerable defenses in the league—having conceded 14 goals so far—Monterrey remains in the upper half of the standings. With Ramos’ presence, Demichelis hopes to stabilize the backline and keep Monterrey in contention for the top spots in Liga MX.
Will Ramos return to the starting XI against Santos, or will Demichelis continue managing his minutes carefully?
