Manchester United Faces Significant Severance Payment to Erik ten Hag if Dismissed
It has come to light how much money the Red Devils would have to pay the Dutch coach in severance if they were to dismiss him. It’s not a small amount.
Erik ten Hag finds himself under pressure again at Manchester United after securing only 6 out of 18 points in the Premier League and drawing with Twente in the opening Europa League match.
Despite overseeing United’s worst Premier League season in their history last year, Ten Hag’s victory in the FA Cup final against Manchester City earned him a contract extension until 2026. However, this extension could now become a burden for the Red Devils as they contemplate his potential dismissal.
Ten Hag earns an annual salary of around £9 million ($10.9 million), meaning United would need to pay him at least £16 million ($19.4 million) in severance for the remaining duration of his contract. According to "The Athletic," it remains unclear whether the Dutchman’s contract includes any additional clauses related to his termination.
High Severance
Manchester United would reportedly have to pay around £16 million ($19.4 million) in severance if they decide to part ways with their coach, Erik Ten Hag.
If the departure happens, the exact severance figure will be made public in Manchester United's next financial report.
For comparison, José Mourinho's dismissal in 2018 cost United £19.6 million ($23.8 million), while Louis Van Gaal's in 2016 amounted to £8.4 million ($10.2 million).
