Manchester United Sack Erik ten Hag!
The Red Devils announced on Monday the dismissal of the Dutch coach. The defeat against West Ham was the last straw. Manchester United is currently 14th in the Premier League.
Manchester United announced on Monday the dismissal of Erik Ten Hag as their manager following the team's defeat to West Ham United, which left them in 14th place in the Premier League with 11 points after nine matches.
Ten Hag, who joined the club in April 2022, secured a League Cup, marking the first trophy for United in five years, as well as an FA Cup during his two seasons in charge. This last success saved him from being sacked last summer after he oversaw United's worst-ever Premier League campaign, finishing in eighth place.
This season has not started any better, with United accumulating only 11 points from a possible 27 in the Premier League and failing to win any of their three Europa League matches against Twente, Porto, and Fenerbahçe.
The situation became critical after the 2-1 loss to West Ham, resulting in United winning just one of their last eight games. They are now seven points above the relegation zone, seven points away from Champions League qualification, and twelve points behind leaders Manchester City.
"We are very grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us, and we wish him the best for the future," stated the club in a release.
While they search for a permanent manager, Dutchman Ruud van Nistelrooy, who was Ten Hag's assistant, will take on the role of interim coach.
United will have to pay £16 million ($20.5 million) in compensation to Ten Hag for his dismissal.
