Newcastle United 1-2 Fulham: Muniz strikes late to seal comeback win
Raul Jimenez and Rodrigo Muniz were on target as Fulham came back from behind to defeat hosts Newcastle United 2-1 in the Premier League.
Fulham came from a goal down to edge Newcastle United 2-1 in a thrilling Premier League clash at St. James’ Park.
Rodrigo Muniz came off the bench to turn in a free-kick from fellow substitute Andreas Pereira eight minutes from time to give the Cottagers their first away win at Newcastle in 16 years.
Raul Jimenez had bagged his ninth league goal of the season just after the hour mark to cancel out Jacob Murphy’s first-half opener for Eddie Howe’s side.
The hosts were left to rue missed chances as Sandro Tonali and Alexander Isak both struck the woodwork for the visitors, while substitute Joe Willock failed to connect with an Isak cross from close range in the second half.
Failing to find a response, Newcastle fell to their second consecutive home defeat, having lost 4-1 to Bournemouth last month.
The result keeps Newcastle in fifth place with 41 points, and they remain level with fourth-placed Manchester City who face Arsenal on Sunday, while Fulham climb to ninth with 36 points.
Data Debrief: Cottages claim rare win at Newcastle
The last time Fulham managed to win at Newcastle was in May 2009 when Diomansy Kamara struck to give the visitors a 1-0 victory.
At the end of that 2008-09 season, Alan Shearer's Magpies were relegated after finishing 18th in the table.
Having also beaten Newcastle 3-1 at Craven Cottage earlier this season, it was only Fulham's third Premier League double over Newcastle - having previously done so during the 2006-07 and 2008-09 seasons.
