Real Madrid Doubles Atlético’s Squad Value Ahead of Champions League Derby
Ahead of the Champions League round-of-16 derby, Real Madrid boasts a squad worth $1.482 billion, more than double that of Atlético Madrid, valued at $688.5 million, according to Be Soccer Pro data.
The financial gap between the two teams stands at $793.5 million, with two players at Real Madrid surpassing $200 million: Vinícius Júnior ($238 million) and Jude Bellingham ($214.3 million). Additionally, three more Madrid players exceed $100 million: Kylian Mbappé ($204.6 million), Federico Valverde ($159.5 million), and Rodrygo Goes ($134.2 million). Aurélien Tchouaméni ($100.5 million) is next in line. Together, these six players account for $1.048 billion, $378.9 million more than the entire Atlético squad.
No Atlético Player Surpasses $100 Million
For Diego Simeone’s team, the most valuable player is Julián Álvarez ($97.1 million), who joined from Manchester City last summer for $80.3 million plus $21.5 million in bonuses. Only three Atlético players are in the top ten for the derby’s most valuable: Álvarez (7th), Conor Gallagher (9th, $51.5 million), and Alexander Sørloth (10th, $49.8 million).
The rest of the top ten belongs to Real Madrid, with names like Eduardo Camavinga ($82.8 million).
Position-by-Position Comparison
In terms of positions, Real Madrid also leads in nearly every category:
- Goalkeepers: Jan Oblak ($36.1 million) is the most valuable keeper, followed by Thibaut Courtois ($18.2 million) and Andriy Lunin ($18 million).
- Defense: Atlético’s defense is valued at $148.6 million, slightly more than Real Madrid’s ($141.4 million).
- Midfield: Real Madrid’s midfield is worth $565.5 million, almost three times that of Atlético’s ($202.6 million), with Bellingham ($214.3 million) leading the charge.
- Attack: Real Madrid’s attack, valued at $731.5 million, exceeds the total value of Atlético’s squad ($688.5 million).
With these numbers, Real Madrid holds an advantage in the market, but on the field, the derby will be decided by more than just figures.
