Serbia's Worst Fears Confirmed in Euros
The Balkan team loses Filip Kostic for the remainder of the Euro 2024 after medical tests confirmed he has a knee injury.
Serbian midfielder Filip Kostic will miss Euro 2024 due to a knee injury sustained last Sunday in the defeat against England, the Serbian Football Federation announced on Wednesday.
MRI scans of his left knee revealed a partial tear of the lateral collateral ligament, requiring a two-week recovery period, the Serbian entity explained in the statement.
"After the match against Slovenia, Kostic will leave the Serbian team’s base in Germany," the announcement added, also informing that his current club, Juventus, has been notified of his situation.
Kostic, 31, had to leave the pitch after a collision with English midfielder Jude Bellingham in the 43rd minute of the match, which his team lost 1-0.
Serbia, currently last in Group C, will face Slovenia this Thursday at the Allianz Arena in Munich, a match Kostic will watch from the sidelines.
