Surprising Texans Victory over Jets Opens Week 9 of the NFL

Aaron Rodgers threw three touchdown passes this Thursday in the New York Jets’ 21-13 victory over the Houston Texans, kicking off Week 9 of the 2024 NFL season.
The Jets snapped a five-game losing streak, improving to three wins and six losses, placing them third in the AFC East. The Texans now stand at 6-3, holding onto first place in the AFC South.
On the Houston side, CJ Stroud struggled under heavy pressure from New York's defense. He was sacked eight times and completed only 11 of 30 passes for 191 yards.
The Texans took a 7-0 lead in the second quarter with a rushing touchdown by Joe Mixon.
New York tied the game at 7-7 early in the third quarter with a Rodgers pass to Garrett Wilson, but the Texans reclaimed the lead, 10-7, with a field goal from Ka'imi Fairbairn.
In the final quarter, the Jets regained the lead, 14-10, with a spectacular one-handed touchdown catch by Garrett Wilson, his second of the game, and secured the 21-10 victory with Davante Adams' first touchdown catch of the season.
The Texans closed in, 21-13, with 39 seconds left on the clock, but they ran out of time to get the ball back.
Week 9 will continue this Sunday with 13 games, including the Miami Dolphins visiting the Buffalo Bills, who aim to remain one of the top teams in the AFC.
Other notable matchups include the Atlanta Falcons, leaders of the NFC South with a 5-3 record, taking on the Dallas Cowboys, who need a win to improve their standing in the NFC East, where they are currently third with a 3-4 record.
Additionally, the battle for the NFC North's top spot will feature the Green Bay Packers, with a 6-2 record, trying to catch the leading Detroit Lions, who hold a 6-1 record.
The week’s games will conclude next Monday with a showdown between the defending champions Kansas City Chiefs, the last unbeaten team this season, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
