Here’s What Sergio ‘Checo’ Pérez Said About His Departure From Red Bull
Mexican Formula 1 driver Sergio "Checo" Pérez expressed his gratitude to Red Bull Racing on Wednesday, following the Austrian team’s announcement of his departure at the end of the 2024 season.
"I am extremely grateful for the four years with Red Bull Racing and the opportunity to race with an incredible team. Driving for Red Bull has been an unforgettable experience, and I will always cherish the success we achieved together," Pérez said in an official statement.
Checo Pérez’s Achievements with Red Bull
Over his four seasons with Red Bull, the 34-year-old driver made his mark in the pinnacle of motorsport. Across 90 races, he achieved:
- 5 victories
- 29 podium finishes
- 932 points
Additionally, Pérez finished as the runner-up in the Drivers' Championship in 2023 and played a key role in helping Red Bull secure two Constructors’ Championships.
The team also shared a farewell message for the Mexican driver on their social media channels:
"Thank you for everything, Checo. After four successful seasons together, Sergio Pérez and Oracle Red Bull Racing have mutually agreed to part ways in 2025."
A Challenging 2024 Season
Pérez's departure comes after a tough 2024 season, during which he faced numerous challenges with his car, ultimately finishing eighth in the Drivers' Championship—well below his career-best performances in previous years.
In his farewell statement, Pérez expressed gratitude not only to the team but also to his teammate Max Verstappen and the fans who have supported him throughout his career.
"It has been an honor to race alongside Max, to have him as a teammate all these years, and to share our successes. I also want to send a very special thank you to all the fans around the world, especially the Mexican fans, for their unwavering support every single day. See you soon," concluded Pérez.
