Lando Norris Wins Sprint and Closes In on Max Verstappen
Lando Norris (McLaren) took victory in Saturday’s sprint race at the São Paulo Grand Prix, round 21 of the Formula 1 World Championship, held at the Interlagos circuit in Brazil. Norris closed the gap to the World Championship leader, Max Verstappen (Red Bull), by two points as Verstappen finished in third.
Norris claimed the win in the 24-lap sprint race—covering just over 102 kilometers—ahead of his McLaren teammate, Oscar Piastri, and Verstappen. The Ferrari drivers, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, came in fourth and fifth, respectively, while Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin), a two-time world champion, finished in eighteenth.
Sergio Pérez (Red Bull) moved up five positions from his starting spot to finish eighth, earning the last available point in this short race, where only the top eight score points.
Meanwhile, Argentina's Franco Colapinto (Williams) finished twelfth in the sprint at Interlagos, which is the penultimate sprint of the year—the last one will take place in Qatar. Verstappen now leads the Championship with 368 points, 45 points ahead of Norris.
