Michael Schumacher Could Reappear Again at Another Important Family Event
Another wedding could be on the horizon for Michael Schumacher, as he is believed to have been "very likely" present at his daughter's wedding. Gina-Maria Schumacher, 27, married Iain Bethke last Saturday in a lavish ceremony at the family villa in Mallorca. Local media reported that they tied the knot around 4 p.m., concluding a ceremony that lasted approximately 30 minutes.
German media, including Bild, reported that it was "very likely" her father was there to see her walk down the aisle. This would mark the first time the Formula 1 legend has been seen by anyone other than medical staff and the family's close inner circle in many years.
For security reasons, guests were asked to leave their phones at the door to prevent photos from being taken inside the luxurious 35 million dollars family villa. The only pictures of the event published so far have been shared by the bride on social media, who wrote alongside a photo with her new husband: "Forever yes to you, yes forever."
There may also be another joyful occasion ahead for the Schumacher family. After witnessing his daughter get married, Michael may have the opportunity to see his son Mick tie the knot as well, following a hint on social media from the 25-year-old's long-time partner.
Model Laila Hasanovic posted a photo on Instagram that appeared to show a diamond ring on her engagement finger, with the caption: "Then it's game over." There has been no confirmation of any engagement yet, while Mick has not been active on social media since his girlfriend's post.
The young driver followed in his father's footsteps by pursuing a career in motorsport and made it to F1 in 2021, signing with Haas. He spent two seasons with the team but was released at the end of 2022 in favor of the more experienced Nico Hulkenberg, having scored points on just two occasions in 43 starts.
Soon after, he joined his father's former team, Mercedes, as a reserve driver for Lewis Hamilton and George Russell. This year, he has been racing in the World Endurance Championship with the emerging Alpine project, which hopes to retain him for another year. Mick wants to return to F1, but there has been little interest, with only Sauber having a seat available for 2025.
However, Schumacher Jr.'s biggest regret is that he has not been able to share his career with his father Michael, who suffered life-changing injuries in a skiing accident in December 2013. He said, "Since the accident, of course, these experiences, these moments that I believe many people have with their parents, are no longer present or are diminished. And in my view, that is a bit unfair.
"I think my dad and I would understand each other differently now. Simply because we speak a similar language—the language of motorsport—and we would have so much more to talk about. And that’s where my mind is most of the time. Thinking how cool that would be... I would give up everything just for that."
