OFFICIAL: General Motors and Cadillac Enter Formula 1
Formula 1 is set to welcome General Motors, one of the leading American automakers, as they join the competition with Cadillac as the 11th team starting in 2026. This recently announced partnership marks a major step in expanding the sport's presence in the U.S., tapping into a rapidly growing fanbase in the world's top motorsport series.
The project, based at Andretti Global's facilities in Silverstone, promises to shake up the F1 landscape. While the team will initially use customer power units, GM plans to develop its own engines by 2028, showcasing its commitment to innovation and technical excellence. GM President Mark Reuss called this move a “global stage to demonstrate our engineering expertise and technological leadership.”
The journey to this point wasn’t easy. After Formula One Management (FOM) initially rejected Andretti’s proposal, citing insufficient value for the championship, GM stepped in to lead the project. Backed by FIA approval and restructuring under Dan Towriss, the team convinced the sport’s organizers of its dedication and ability to compete at the highest level.
Cadillac's arrival not only promises to boost on-track excitement but also strengthens F1’s growth strategy in the U.S. With three Grands Prix already held on American soil and a fanbase that continues to grow, the debut of this iconic automaker represents a pivotal moment for the sport, further cementing its status as a global phenomenon.
