Corinthians Fans Erupt Against Ramón Díaz After Libertadores Defeat
The Gaviões da Fiel, the most important supporters' group of Corinthians, launched strong criticism against Argentine coach Ramón Díaz following the team's 3-0 defeat against Barcelona de Ecuador in the first leg of the third qualifying round of the Copa Libertadores.
"Coach, enough with the trials and excuses. The season has started, and in these three months, you still haven't fixed the recurring problems or presented a tactical plan for the team," the group stated in a message shared on social media.
While they acknowledged the coaching staff's efforts to avoid relegation in 2024, they emphasized that "the past doesn’t win matches" and demanded a team that is "worthy" of the club’s history. They also described the team’s performance as "shameful," calling them "lost and soulless."
Support with Conditions
The fans assured that next Wednesday, in the second leg, their support will not be lacking, but they expect to see "fire in their eyes and a fierce fight to secure qualification." Corinthians will need to win by at least four goals to avoid penalties and advance to the next stage.
Coach Ramón Díaz, who took charge nearly eight months ago, accepted responsibility for the defeat and acknowledged the fans’ frustration. However, he pointed out that Barcelona de Ecuador was the superior team and that many players were fatigued due to a demanding run of crucial matches.
