What happens if Racing and Cruzeiro draw in the Copa Sudamericana Final?
If the Copa Sudamericana final between Racing and Cruzeiro ends in a draw during regular time, the match will go into extra time, with 30 additional minutes. If the tie persists, the champion will be decided through a penalty shootout.
This was confirmed by the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) on Friday, a day before the showdown at the General Pablo Rojas Stadium, known as La Nueva Olla, in Asunción.
“If there’s a draw in regular time, we’ll have more football: 30 minutes of extra time, and if it’s still tied, penalties,” stated the governing body of South American football, headquartered in Luque, Paraguay.
Racing and Cruzeiro are both chasing their first Copa Sudamericana title, a trophy that has eluded these historic rivals in continental competitions. The final will feature stars like Colombian Juan Fernando Quintero and Brazilian rising talent Kaio Jorge. The winner of the 2024 edition will take home six million dollars, while the runner-up will receive two million.
