Barcelona, riding high after their emphatic victory over Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup final, hosts the unpredictable Real Betis in the Round of 16 of the Copa del Rey. Betis has proven capable of earning points against Barça and Atlético Madrid in LaLiga but also suffered a surprising 1-0 loss to bottom-placed Valladolid last Saturday.
Just 72 hours after securing their first title under coach Hansi Flick in Saudi Arabia, the Blaugrana face another do-or-die clash in the Copa del Rey. This competition has eluded them since the 2020-2021 season, with their most recent campaign ending in a quarterfinal defeat to Athletic Club (2-4).
Interestingly, the Basque side was Barça’s first victim in the Spanish Super Cup (2-0), a tournament that has restored the Catalans' confidence and direction, especially after struggling in LaLiga EA Sports, where they picked up just five points in the last seven matches of the first half of the season.
