Claudio Bravo: "Barcelona is a Small Club"
Chilean goalkeeper Claudio Bravo, who played for FC Barcelona from 2014 to 2016, made some bold statements about his time with the Catalan club. In an interview on a TV show in his home country, Bravo described Barça as a "global giant," but said it "operates like a small club" internally.
Bravo, who later signed with Manchester City, compared Barça's organization to that of the English team, highlighting the significant difference in resources and staff. "At Barcelona, you always see the same faces. There’s very few people: players, staff, three or four security guards, the cook, and not much else," the Chilean remarked, emphasizing that despite its global status, the club feels small in its day-to-day operations.
On the other hand, when talking about Manchester City, Bravo was clear: "It’s a massive club internally. They have unlimited resources and an impressive number of staff in every area. There are people in the pool, in the locker room, in the medical area... there’s more than enough staff! They spare no expense to ensure players can develop in the best possible way."
Bravo continued by explaining that, unlike Barça, City invests in having the best personnel in every area so that players can focus solely on their performance on the pitch. "You have the best physio, the best fitness coach, and not just one, but two or three. In the medical area, there are twenty treatment tables, not five, and several doctors always on hand," Bravo added, underscoring the British club's philosophy of providing all the necessary facilities for the well-being and development of its players.
These comments come at a time when Bravo is without a team, following his departure from Real Betis. His time at Manchester City, marked by a reduced role in his final seasons, left him with a lasting impression of how an elite club should operate—something he believes Barcelona, despite its greatness, fails to fully achieve.
