Giovani Lo Celso Suffers a New Nuscle Injury and Will Be Out for Several Weeks
Argentine playmaker Giovani Lo Celso, of Real Betis, has been diagnosed with a myofascial injury in the adductor longus muscle of his left leg. The club announced the news on Monday following tests conducted at a clinic in Seville. While no specific recovery timeline has been provided, the player is expected to be sidelined for several weeks.
Betis issued a statement explaining that the recovery of the Argentine international will depend on his progress in the coming days. Lo Celso, a key figure in the offensive setup of Chilean coach Manuel Pellegrini, did not train on Monday after experiencing discomfort during Saturday’s 1-0 loss against Real Valladolid. In that match, the Rosario native had to be substituted in the 75th minute by youth player Mateo Flores.
This is not the first time the 28-year-old midfielder has faced physical issues this season. Lo Celso previously missed nearly a month between October and November due to a thigh injury. Despite these setbacks, he has played 16 matches for Betis this season: 13 in LaLiga, scoring 7 goals and providing 1 assist; 2 in the Copa del Rey; and 1 in the Europa Conference League, where he also scored.
The Argentine star, one of the cornerstones of the Andalusian squad, will miss Wednesday’s Copa del Rey clash against Barcelona and is likely to miss several upcoming LaLiga matches. His absence poses a challenge for Pellegrini, who will need to find alternatives in midfield to replace one of his most influential players.
Despite a recent dip in form, Lo Celso remains a crucial figure for Betis. His injury marks another setback for the team, which is striving to stay competitive across all competitions. All eyes will now be on his recovery, with hopes that he will return to the pitch in top form as soon as possible.
