Why Lamine Yamal Won’t Play Against Atlético Madrid
The FC Barcelona has unveiled its lineup for the pivotal clash against Atlético Madrid, marking the team's final match of 2024. However, the Blaugrana will face this challenge without their most dynamic player, Lamine Yamal.

Why Isn’t Lamine Yamal Playing?
The young sensation is sidelined for three to four weeks due to a Grade 1 injury to the anterior tibiofibular ligament in his right ankle, as confirmed by the club's medical team earlier this week.
Yamal sustained the injury during Sunday’s LaLiga EA Sports match at the Estadio Olímpico Lluís Companys against Leganés (0-1). A hard tackle from midfielder Yvan Neyou in the 16th minute forced the winger off the pitch, where he was replaced by Gavi in the 75th minute, visibly in pain.
This is the second injury to Yamal’s right ankle this season. He previously missed three weeks following a syndesmosis injury sustained in the UEFA Champions League match against Red Star on November 6.
Without the Spanish international, Barcelona suffered a 1-0 defeat to Real Sociedad and a 2-2 draw with Celta in LaLiga, though they managed a 3-0 win against Brest in the Champions League.
Lamine Yamal’s Impact This Season
A cornerstone of Hansi Flick’s squad, Yamal has delivered six goals and 11 assists this season, making him the third-most prolific provider in Europe’s top five leagues. His absence leaves a notable gap in Barcelona's attack as they prepare to face Atlético Madrid.
