Messi's Heartfelt Message to Iniesta Upon his Retirement
Current Inter Miami forward and Barcelona's all-time top scorer, Lionel Messi, dedicated a farewell message on social media to his former teammate Andrés Iniesta, who announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 40 on Monday. In the message, Messi said the ball will "miss him."
"One of the most magical teammates and someone I enjoyed playing with the most. Andrés Iniesta, the ball will miss you, and so will we! I wish you all the best always, you're a phenomenon!" wrote the Argentine player in a message accompanied by a photo of both celebrating a goal with Barcelona.
Iniesta and Messi shared the locker room at Camp Nou for over a decade, from the Argentine's official debut with the first team in 2004 until the midfielder left for Japan's Vissel Kobe in 2018.
Both were key figures in Barcelona's most successful period, during which the club won nine La Liga titles, four Champions League titles, six Copa del Rey titles, and three Club World Cups, among other trophies.
