Mourinho Raves About Real Madrid’s Incredible Talent

José Mourinho has few doubts about the potential of the Real Madrid side he is building. Following an emphatic 3-0 win over Schalke 04 in Germany, the Portuguese coach delivered a statement that underlined his confidence heading into the new season.

“Here we only have good players, very good players and very, very good players,” Mourinho told Real Madrid TV. For the Portuguese manager, the next challenge is turning all that individual talent into a cohesive unit on the pitch.

“We have to combine the work of these players to build a very good team. I think we are taking the right steps to do that,” Mourinho added, insisting that his squad is moving in the right direction before competitive action begins.

Mbappé and the New Arrivals Impress Mourinho

The Real Madrid coach also praised the way the players who joined preseason later have handled their first days with the squad. Mourinho said he was “very happy” with them and particularly impressed by their mentality despite the demanding training sessions.

Kylian Mbappé and Konaté played 45 minutes against Schalke, while Jude Bellingham, Cucurella and Diomande were each given around half an hour.

Mourinho explained that those workloads were determined using physical data, combined with each player’s experience and knowledge of his own body. The goal has been to accelerate their preparation without taking unnecessary risks before the season begins.

Mourinho Admits There Is Still a Fitness Gap

Not every Real Madrid player is currently at the same stage physically. Mourinho pointed out that those who began preseason on the first day have already completed around 30 training sessions and six matches, while some of the latest arrivals have only participated in three or four sessions.

That difference inevitably affects match sharpness, although the Portuguese coach believes the team is making encouraging tactical progress.

“The ideas are gradually coming together,” Mourinho explained, while also highlighting the individual quality within the squad and the team’s ability to work collectively both with and without the ball.

Real Madrid Is Starting to Look Like Mourinho’s Team

Beyond preseason results, Mourinho appears particularly pleased with the attitude inside the dressing room. He highlighted seemingly small details, including players reporting earlier than required and late arrivals showing up in excellent condition after working individually.

“We are playing as a team. There is empathy and collective work,” the Portuguese coach said following Real Madrid’s final preseason test.

The 3-0 victory over Schalke provided an encouraging conclusion to their preparations, but Mourinho knows the real test begins now. The friendlies are over, and Real Madrid must prove whether a squad filled with what its coach calls “very, very good players” can become a team capable of competing for every major trophy.
