Rodri has already taken his first step with Barcelona as Flick starts preparing for what comes next

The new chapter of Rodri Hernández as an FC Barcelona player has already begun on the training pitch.

After signing his contract and being officially presented as a new Barça player, the Spanish midfielder completed his first training session under Hansi Flick this Wednesday at Camp Tito Vilanova.

From Camp Nou straight to the training pitch

The 30-year-old midfielder began preseason later after only recently returning to training with Manchester City before his move to Barcelona was finally completed.

As a result, during his first day with Flick he took part in an activation session featuring individual work and a brief spell on the pitch, rather than completing a regular session at the same pace as his new teammates.

Flick gets players back ahead of the opener

Rodri was not the only notable presence during the session.

Pedri and Gavi continue to work with the group after missing the friendly in which Barcelona defeated Basel 5-2. Flick will have to decide whether both players get minutes in the Gamper.

Joao Cancelo is also training with the squad, although his return to the club still depends on the completion of some administrative formalities before it can be officially announced. The Portuguese defender was also reunited with Rodri after the two shared a dressing room for several seasons at Manchester City.

Countdown to LaLiga

The match against Al Ahly represents Barcelona’s final rehearsal before officially beginning their LaLiga season.

Flick’s side will make their league debut next Sunday against Elche, while Rodri continues working to reach the required fitness level and begin taking on the role Barça expect him to have in their new project.

His competitive debut will still have to wait, but his new life as a Barcelona player is now officially underway.
