Bernardo Silva Takes Swipe at Former Teammate Rodri During Real Madrid Presentation
The Portuguese star was unveiled as a new Real Madrid player and delivered a remark that inevitably brings to mind Rodri's decision to choose Barcelona.
Bernardo Silva enjoyed his first major moment as a Real Madrid player during his official presentation, but amid the usual words of excitement and gratitude, one particular comment took on added significance given everything that has happened during the transfer window.
The Portuguese midfielder spoke about being overwhelmed by Real Madrid's history and particularly by seeing the club's 15 Champions League trophies up close. It was at that moment that he delivered a remark that could easily be interpreted as a subtle swipe at his former Manchester City teammate Rodri.
The Spanish midfielder also had the opportunity to move to the Santiago Bernabéu this summer but ultimately rejected that option in favor of joining FC Barcelona, making it difficult not to connect his decision with Bernardo's comments.
"Playing for a Club With 15 Champions Leagues Isn't for Everyone"
Bernardo already knew the magnitude of Real Madrid after visiting the Santiago Bernabéu several times as an opponent during his Manchester City career, but he admitted that experiencing it as a Madrid player feels completely different.
"I've played at the Bernabéu quite a few times. When you arrive and see the 15 Champions League trophies there, it's very imposing and having them here is very special. Playing for a club that has 15 Champions Leagues isn't for everyone," Bernardo told Real Madrid TV.
Bernardo never mentioned Rodri directly, meaning there is no indication that the comment was specifically aimed at the Spaniard. Still, his words take on an intriguing meaning after his former teammate chose Barcelona despite strong interest from Real Madrid.

Rodri Chose Barcelona Over Real Madrid
Rodri's future became one of the biggest storylines of the summer transfer window following his outstanding performances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Real Madrid and Barcelona emerged as the leading contenders for his signature once a departure from Manchester City became a possibility.
The midfielder eventually chose the Blaugrana project. According to recent reports, a conversation with Pep Guardiola played an important role in his decision, with his former manager reportedly believing Barcelona's style of play was better suited to Rodri's qualities.
Now, just days after that decision, one of his former Manchester City teammates is proudly celebrating the European history of the very club Rodri decided not to join.
Bernardo Silva Fulfills His Real Madrid Dream
Regardless of any possible interpretation of his comments, Bernardo made it clear that joining Real Madrid represents one of the biggest moments of his career.
"Since you're a kid, when you don't even know if you're going to become a footballer, you dream of playing for a club like Real Madrid," the Portuguese midfielder said, while also highlighting the feeling of seeing the club's extraordinary trophy collection in person.
Bernardo ended his presentation with a message to Madrid supporters and a promise to work toward adding even more silverware to that collection. Rodri chose a different path; his former teammate is now proudly embracing life at the Santiago Bernabéu.
