Jude Bellingham Shows Full Support for Mbappé After Missed Penalty and Painful Loss to Liverpool
The English player Jude Bellingham, from Real Madrid, explained that "it’s not a disaster" to lose against Liverpool and that they didn’t lose because of the penalty missed by Kylian Mbappé.
Bellingham’s Support for Mbappé
Regarding the penalty Mbappé missed with the score at 1-0, Bellingham said it was an "important moment," but that in football, "things like that can happen."
"The pressure he has because of how good he is is very big. We didn’t lose because of the penalty. They played better than us. Kylian has to keep his head up, and he will produce great moments for this club," Bellingham stated.
The Missed Penalty by Mbappé
"We didn’t control the game, we didn’t maximize the time we had the ball, we lost possession too much. They boxed us into positions where we couldn’t do anything. It’s a bad result against the best team in Europe, but it’s not a disaster to lose here. We have three more games, and it’s important to win them all to have a chance of advancing," said the English player to TNT Sports.
All eyes were on Kylian Mbappé and what he could do with Real Madrid during their visit to Liverpool. Unfortunately for the Frenchman, things didn’t go well for him, and he had a tough match, even missing a penalty.
The Photo of Mbappé Everyone’s Talking About
This is how the cameras captured the French forward at a moment in the match, a photo that has gone viral on social media and can be described as the perfect representation of his performance at Anfield.
Mbappé Still Struggling
With Vinícius Jr. sidelined due to injury, it was the perfect opportunity for Mbappé to step up, but Liverpool had other plans. In a tough visit, Carlo Ancelotti's team ended up losing 2-0, with a French penalty miss that could define his time at the club.
At the 61st minute, the French forward took responsibility for the penalty kick, which he missed after aiming for the right side and having it saved. This allowed Liverpool to maintain their one-goal advantage.
This was the second penalty Mbappé has missed in the Champions League, having also missed one against RB Leipzig in October 2021.
Mbappé Struggling to Find His Rhythm with Real Madrid in the Champions League
The former PSG player continues to face criticism for his lack of effectiveness in front of goal, and his numbers speak for themselves: he has scored only one goal in five matches for the Spanish team in the European competition. Across all competitions, he has netted nine goals, but expectations were higher.
Vinícius Jr. is the team’s top scorer under Carlo Ancelotti, with 12 goals, four of them in the Champions League.
