Carlo Ancelotti Downplays Loss to Liverpool, Confident in Real Madrid's Champions League Campaign
Carlo Ancelotti, head coach of Real Madrid, remained calm following his team's 2-0 defeat to Liverpool in the Champions League. Speaking at the post-match press conference, the Italian coach emphasized that the game was "not decisive" and expressed confidence that his squad will finish among the top 24 teams in the group stage and continue fighting for the title.
"This match wasn’t decisive. The objective is to finish in the top 24. We will achieve that and compete in the Champions League, just as we have in previous years," Ancelotti stated, downplaying the significance of the loss at Anfield.
Backing Mbappé
When asked about Kylian Mbappé, who missed a crucial penalty and has struggled to find top form this season, Ancelotti called for patience and support for the French forward. "There’s not much we need to do with him. He’s working hard and adapting well. Things aren’t going his way, but we need to be patient because he’s an extraordinary player," said Ancelotti, confident in Mbappé’s eventual resurgence.
Injury Woes Deepen
The loss not only dealt a blow to Real Madrid’s hopes of a direct spot in the knockout stages but also added to their mounting injury list. Eduardo Camavinga suffered a muscular issue, forcing him off in the second half.
"Today, we lost another player, Camavinga. Hopefully, we’ll have Rodrygo back for the next match. We’ve dealt with injuries before, like last year, and hopefully, we’ll come through it this time as well," Ancelotti commented, acknowledging the challenge of managing a depleted squad.
Despite the setbacks, Ancelotti remains optimistic, placing faith in Real Madrid’s experience and resilience to navigate through this challenging period and continue their Champions League journey.
