Formula 1 to Become More Diverse and Inclusive
Formula 1 has announced the official implementation of a Diversity and Inclusion charter, agreed upon by the ten teams, the organization itself, and the International Automobile Federation (FIA). This document commits all parties to "create, support, and implement actions, measures, and results to build a more diverse and inclusive sport."
"Formula 1 recognizes the importance of diversity in bringing new perspectives and ideas, as well as driving innovation, culture, and business results. While it operates in a highly competitive environment, this charter is designed to make these goals a reality and deliver positive, long-lasting outcomes," the organization stated in a press release.
The commitment is built on four pillars: attract, retain, create, and engage. The aim is to identify and remove barriers to attracting and retaining a wide range of diverse individuals within its workforce, while enhancing collaboration and engagement with partners to foster innovation.
In this context, the teams pledge to appoint individuals responsible for developing and overseeing work in this area, meet regularly to assess progress, and collaborate on the charter’s objectives. This includes using clear language, working as a team to resolve issues, and acknowledging the need for support in monitoring and complying with these measures.
"Our sport is renowned for its elite performance and innovation. We know the only way to maintain and enhance these exceptional standards is by embracing diversity of thought, ideas, and experiences. We are fully committed to making our sport more open and inclusive," stated Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1.
"The diversification of motorsport is essential for its continued success. By ensuring equal opportunities, increasing accessibility, and reinforcing our commitment to this charter, we will drive positive change for the future," said Mohammed Ben Sulayem, President of the FIA.
