Montiel Returns to River: "You Always Go Back to Where You were Happy"
Defender Gonzalo Montiel, transferred from Sevilla to River Plate, arrived in Buenos Aires this Wednesday and emotionally declared: "You always go back to where you were happy."
The former Sevilla player, 28, returns to the club where he developed after a transfer deal close to five million dollars. Interestingly, Montiel shared the flight from Madrid with Ander Herrera, who joins as Boca Juniors' new signing for the 2025 season.
"He's someone I care about deeply; he helped me debut and grow as a player," said Montiel about Marcelo Gallardo upon his arrival at Ezeiza airport. The full-back will once again be coached by ‘El Muñeco.’
"What drew me back was playing for River, which is the most important thing. Among my goals are continuing to improve as a player and winning important titles. Every challenge is worth fighting for, and we’ll fight for everything," expressed the man who scored the decisive penalty that secured the Albiceleste the World Cup title in Qatar 2022.
"I’m happy to return to Argentina and excited to reconnect with the River fans: it will be wonderful to be at the Monumental again," concluded ‘Cachete’ Montiel.
