Sudamericana Fever! Argentine and Brazilian Fans Arrive in Paraguay for the Grand Final
Nearly 10,000 Argentine and Brazilian fans have traveled to Paraguay, by land and air, to experience the Copa Sudamericana final set to take place this Saturday at the General Pablo Rojas Stadium, also known as "La Nueva Olla," in Asunción. This was confirmed by the National Directorate of Migration on Friday.
As of midday Friday, authorities recorded the arrival of 9,622 foreign visitors: 7,033 Argentines, 2,300 Brazilians, and 289 from other nationalities, according to a report covering the period from November 19 to 21.
The José Falcón border crossing, which connects with the Argentine town of Clorinda, has been one of the busiest entry points, welcoming hundreds of private vehicles and buses packed with enthusiastic Racing fans.
Among the supporters is Santiago Antúnez, who traveled from Cipolletti in the Argentine Patagonia to the border. “It’s our first time leaving the country. We hope to return on Sunday or head to Avellaneda to celebrate a hard-fought but certain 2-1 victory for Racing,” he said, proudly holding a photo of Juan Fernando Quintero, the hero of the semifinal against Corinthians.
The excitement continues with Silvio Brito, who completed a 12-hour trip from Tucumán to Paraguay with four companions. Predicting a 2-0 win for Racing, he declared, “After 36 years, we’re going to lift the trophy. We’ll fill Paraguay with joy, and it will be a huge celebration.”
Paraguay has implemented a significant security operation to ensure the safety and mobility of the fans flooding Asunción. The city is expected to host over 60,000 spectators, 45,000 of whom will attend the match, making this a historic event for all involved.
