Barcelona Starts 2025 on the Wrong Foot: LaLiga Removes Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor!
Barcelona sees Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor removed from LaLiga's registered squad list. The club is working tirelessly to re-register them.
Forwards Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor are no longer listed in Barcelona's squad after the club failed to register them by the December 31 deadline. However, the Catalan club has appealed to the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) for a new license for both players, claiming "force majeure."
Barcelona argues that within approximately 48 hours, they will have deposited a portion of the €100 million expected from the sale of VIP box rights at the new Spotify Camp Nou.
To comply with LaLiga's financial fair play 1:1 rule and register both players, the league required Barcelona to provide full documentation of agreements with two Middle Eastern investors and proof of advance payments for the VIP box rights by January 1.
In a statement issued last night, LaLiga confirmed that Barcelona had not submitted any alternatives to meet the economic control regulations, making it impossible to register new players starting January 2.
As a result, LaLiga has unregistered Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor, while reinstating Andreas Christensen, whose spot in the squad Olmo had taken due to the Danish defender's long-term injury.
Barcelona remains confident it will register both players once the financial transactions are finalized. However, such a registration would be outside the deadline and would require approval from both the RFEF and LaLiga to proceed.
