Simeone Affirms Atlético de Madrid Has a Bright Future
The day after reaching 700 matches with Atlético de Madrid, Diego Simeone, the head coach of the rojiblanco team since December 2011, expressed on Sunday that "this club has a future" and declared they are "going for more, together."
"My deepest gratitude to Atlético de Madrid for these 700 matches. And as I said years ago, this club has a future. So let's go for more, together," the Argentine coach posted on his social media.
"Always grateful," he added in all caps. The Atlético manager has achieved 413 victories and eight titles throughout his tenure, which began on January 7, 2012, against Málaga at La Rosaleda Stadium.
The coach's message, whose contract with Atlético de Madrid runs until June 30, 2027, includes a video from the final matchday of the 2016-17 season at the now-demolished Vicente Calderón Stadium. In the video, Simeone addresses the fans with a microphone in hand.
"Journalists keep asking me if I'm staying. Yes, I’m staying. And do you know why I’m staying? Because this club has a future. And the future is all of us," he told the supporters back then, as shown in the video.
