Herdman resigns as Toronto FC head coach
John Herdman has resigned as Toronto FC head coach after finishing 11th in the MLS Eastern Conference.
John Herdman has announced his resignation as head coach at Toronto FC with immediate effect following the close of the MLS season.
The Englishman joined the club in August 2023 with Toronto at the bottom of the MLS Eastern Conference with just three wins in 26 games.
This season, Herdman helped Toronto to an 11th-placed finish in the league with just four defeats all season (W11 D19) but failed to make the playoffs.
Toronto also made the Canadian Championship final in 2024 under Herdman’s tenure but lost on penalties after a 0-0 draw to Vancouver Whitecaps.
“Personally, I have made the difficult decision that it’s the right time for me to step away from the club, as the organization defines its vision for the future,” said Herdman.
“It has been an honour to wear the Toronto FC crest and contribute to the growth of the club. Working with this dedicated group of players and staff has been a true privilege.”
