Barça Considers Jonathan David As An Option For The Future
Jonathan David, Lille's forward, does not hide his ambition: "My dream is to play for Barça," he recently stated. His words did not come as a surprise in the Camp Nou offices, where he has already been placed on their radar. The club’s scouting department has been closely monitoring him, analyzing his development and gathering information about his performance both in Ligue 1 and in European competitions.
With a contract until June 2025 and a firm decision not to renew with the French club, the Canadian striker, who has scored 13 goals and 2 assists in 19 matches this season, is seen as an interesting option for Barça's future. However, the Catalan club is still evaluating whether his level fits with the demands of their playing style.
So far this season, David has stood out in key matches. His goal against Real Madrid, which secured Lille's victory, and his stellar performance against Atlético de Madrid, with two goals in just 25 minutes, have caught Barça's attention. Additionally, his four goals in the Champions League, including one against Juventus, further strengthen his profile as a striker with a goal-scoring instinct in important matches.
However, Barça remains cautious. Although his status as a free agent in 2025 could make negotiations easier, the club is reminded that not all players in that situation meet the required level. Moreover, signing bonuses typically make these types of acquisitions more expensive.
The sporting management is already working on the future replacement for Robert Lewandowski, who could extend his contract for another season if he meets the established requirements, such as playing over 55% of the matches. With Pau Víctor still in development, Barça is looking for a goal scorer who can guarantee important figures. For now, Jonathan David will continue to be monitored to determine whether his profile is suitable to lead the Catalan attack in the future.
