Slot's Great Admiration for Real Madrid
Arne Slot, Liverpool's manager, revealed that he used the 2-5 defeat that Real Madrid inflicted on the 'Reds' in 2023 as an example of what the white team represents during his time at Feyenoord.
Real Madrid remains unbeaten in their last eight encounters against Liverpool, with an impressive record of seven wins and one draw. In the 2022-2023 Champions League Round of 16, Madrid dominated at Anfield with a resounding 2-5 victory.
"I didn't know we had played against them so many times. That match (the 2-5) I used as an example at Feyenoord because Madrid always finds a way. That’s what makes them so special. That’s what has made them the best team in the world over the last five or ten years," Slot commented this Tuesday during a press conference.
Regarding Mohamed Salah’s situation, who expressed feeling "disappointed" about the lack of talks regarding his renewal, Slot said he had no information on a potential deal. However, he emphasized that, based on the lineups, "Mo is more in than out."
"I don’t think he’s distracted at all. I haven’t noticed anything different in him after those comments. He keeps scoring and is only focused on tomorrow’s match. If you were at the training ground today, no one is talking about it. The players are focused on the short term, which now is Madrid and City. There’s no distraction among the players or me," the manager concluded.
