Flick Praises Xavi’s Work with FC Barcelona
Barcelona’s coach, Hansi Flick, says it's "not fair" to compare him with his predecessor, Xavi Hernández, highlighting how Xavi "gave young players a chance" to debut in the first team, a move Flick is "continuing."
"It's not fair to compare my work with Xavi’s. They were different situations. I have the utmost respect for him; he was a great player and coach. He gave young players a chance, and he deserves credit for that. I’m just continuing along the same line," the German coach stated.
From the press room at the Joan Gamper Sports City, Flick commented on the morning’s training updates: center-back Pau Cubarsí trained with a protective mask, while midfielder Dani Olmo missed out due to illness, and winger Lamine Yamal worked out in the gym.
"I think Pau will be fine; he completed the whole session. Lamine did specific strength training. He’s played a lot recently, so we need to take care of him. We’ll see how he feels tomorrow. Olmo was feeling unwell last night but is better today. He’s on medication, and I think he’ll be ready for tomorrow," he revealed.
Flick once again emphasized that Barça’s "key" approach is "taking it one game at a time." When asked if a win this Sunday at the Reale Arena could pave the way to the title, he responded that it’s "just one more game."
"We’re not looking back; we’re focused on the next match. Three points are on the line, which is our goal, but it won’t be easy. We’ll have to fight as a team for all 90 minutes. I like how Real Sociedad plays; they’re a very smart and technical team. It’s going to be a good game," he predicted.
